What I've been working on....

Rewriting Laser Tag software from the Graffiti Research Labs. Below are some pics of it in action from last night's fun in Marion Square:

(no subject)

The Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS) is one of the easiest and best ways to package software for a windoze installation. This said, I couldn't find any easy examples for creating a script for the installation of a Python package. Took a little while, but I was able to create a rudimentary, working, generalized installation script. You can check out the NSIS Python package installation script in the GOGrapher SVN repository here.

Lincoln's Legacy

Nothing like unnecessarily putting 600 POW into harms way. They were probably racists anyway, so it's alright, right?

Art Show Recap

(Crossposted from http://blog.tagrecord.com/2008/05/art-show-recap.html)

Had a great time at the show at the old Artist and Craftsman. Here are some pics from the show (last piece by Hillary Thomas, fairly sure other three by Scott Debus).

And here are some of the throwies we made for the show (including a bullet throwie):

Scientology Comes to Charleston

Compare this logo (from the corner of President Street and Spring Street):

with this one:

Look pretty similar? The second one is the logo of Scientology's Sea Org (their navy). According to L. Ron Hubbard, "the Sea Org symbol, adopted and used as the symbol of a Galactic Confederacy far back in the history of this sector, derives much of its power and authority from that association." Makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is the billion year contract members of the Sea Org have to sign. I wonder if this means the Scientologists are moving into the local contracting market.

For your viewing pleasure...

Make Throwies Not Bombs

Just found a throwie. This is the first time I've seen them in Charleston. Basically, you tape a magnet to a battery connected to a LED light. Then you can place them on anything magnetic. It's a form of non destructive tagging.

For more information see the Graffiti Research Lab's page on throwies and instructions on how to make them. The image below links to the TagRecord.com entry.

Cults : Spreading Their Messages On the Tubes

I've been doing a lot of research lately regarding cults (for a project soon to be appearing on the tubes). I've been amazed at the range and amount of material some cults put online. For instance, someone is still maintaining the Heaven's Gate website. And by the way, everyone should know what a member of the Kingdom of Heaven looks like:

The FLDS church (of recent polygamist fame) has a number of videos and pictures on their website. One of the creepiest things I've ever heard is the first song on their music page (the mp3 can be directly downloaded). I can't seem to get past the first 15 seconds or so without turning it off out of fright.

Wesly Crusher + Agent Doggett

Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) and Agent John Doggett (Robert Patrick) were both in an episode of The Outer Limits together - watch it at at hulu.com.

Kind of a weird mix, but it works.

"Environmental Enforcement" Office A Misnomer

So...recycling is about keepin it clean and green, right? Especially at the Charleston County "Solid Waste/Recycling/Environmental Enforcement" Office? What about letting trash blow away freely? Keep in mind these pics are just of the county property. The road and the tree line 20 feet away across the street is full of trash.

Zombie movie wrapup

See the excellent final thoughts by xark. This certainly was a fun project, and I'm excited by what might come next. This was a great way to test the possibilities.....who knows, the next project might end up being twice as ambitious.

Sidewalk Psychiatry

While randomly surfing the tubes this morning (specifically, the jwz feed) I came across a graduate student's project in NYC that involves spraypainting statements that encourage self-evaluation on the sidewalks. From her site:
While doing some habitual walking and thinking one morning, Candy thought it would be nice to have some help along the way. Pedestrians in the city often find themselves walking in deep thought. A routine trip can prompt reflections on everything from future goals to last night’s dinner conversation. As people sacrifice personal time for hectic schedules, these casual occasions for reflection become all the more important.

Now, compare an example from NYC:

I'd say there's at least a bit of a connection.

This image of the Huguenot church was taken right before Saturday's storm. It looks really creepy.
